Jurisdictional First Lady
Dr. Vell Lyles
Jurisdictional First Lady - Greater Maryland First Jurisdiction
VELL HAYES LYLES, the daughter of Justine Hayes and the late Thomas Hayes, is a native of Louisville, Kentucky.
At a young age, Lady Lyles accepted the Lord and made a commitment to stay with the Lord. She attended Moore Temple Church of God In Christ for over twenty years under the pastorate of Bishop A. T. Moore. She has served as a choir directress, Sunday School Teacher and the State Youth Department Secretary.
Upon moving to Maryland, she attended the New Bethel Church of God In Christ, Washington, D. C. pastored by the late Bishop Sherman Howard and served as District Chairlady of the Youth Department and ministered to various groups.
Her desire for higher education led her to Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and to the University of Louisville where she earned a Master's Degree in Education. Lady Lyles has been employed for over twenty years in higher education. She has worked as Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management at Coppin State University, Dean of Student and Director of Minority Affairs at St. Mary's College, and Director of Student Support Services at Bowie State University.
Lady Lyles' testimony and love of the Word has led her to evangelize and teach others kingdom principles. She has spoken at youth and women services, and retreats. She believes that God saves to the utmost and deliverance is available to any soul who seeks the Lord.
In 1992, she married Elder Joel H. Lyles, Jr. and two years later became the mother of Ashley. She is first lady of Emmanuel Ministries Church of God In Christ and in 2007 became the first lady of Greater Maryland First Jurisdiction. She works closely with her husband in full time ministry to serve the people of the Lord. Her prayer continues to be that she may know Christ, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering, being made conformable to his death (Philippians 3:10).
